Common Crimes and Its Rate in the Dubai

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) is considered to be one of the safest places in the world. Other highly standardized countries have higher crime rates than the UAE. Each Emirate of the country has proven to be a good and safe place to reside in.

At the Emirate of Dubai, crime is at the minimum level. It is not out of control but is continuously trying to be contained and regulated by the government and its law enforcement to ensure that the crime rates do not only lower down but be eradicated as well.

What are the Common Crimes in the Dubai?

Cybercrime

Simply, cybercrime is a crime that is done by using a computer. Some of the common cases are hacking, spamming, phishing, cyberbullying, child pornography, etc. Cybercriminals are known to use the internet to obtain information that is not available to anyone as they are confidential, such as credit card information, business secrets, etc.

Although not that common, there have been incidents of this crime in the UAE. According to Wikipedia, there is an increase in the cyber crime department. It was reported that a rise in hacking was noted to be 300% in the first half of the year 2002.

However, even if this was the case, the government has been continuously working to ensure that the country is not susceptible to this kind of crime and attack.

Breaking and Entering

Simply, breaking and entering is a crime that can be related to burglary or trespassing. This entering a resident’s house with force as there is no authorization granted. This is also common in other countries, hence a common crime that is committed in the world.

There has been a report about 289 house burglaries that were by the Dubai Police in the year 2015. It was a good decrease compared to 333 in the year 2014.

Drugs

Just like in most countries in the world, the UAE does not tolerate any possession of narcotics, psychotropics, and other illegal drugs. These are drugs that put a person in a state of coma, insensibility to pain, stupor, etc. and affect the mental state of a person.

Drug trafficking is one of the common crimes in the country and in Dubai. The country is strict in implementing its zero tolerance for this kind of crime that someone can be landed in jail by just being caught having a small number of illegal drugs with them.

In 2017, there have been more cases recorded to the ones in 2016. There is also an increase in the arrests of drug suspects in 2017 compared to 2016.

In recent news, it is good to know that cases with regard to illegal drugs have dropped in number in the past 5 years.

This is with the government and its law enforcement’s incessant effort to bring down the crime rates in the Emirate and in the country. With their continuous exertion, it is expected that the drug cases will lower even more in the coming years.

Sexual Assault and Abuse

Sadly, sexual harassment is still a thing in the world and seems to be constantly happening, regardless if they are in the news or not.

There was a news that broke out before about a four-year-old girl in Dubai that’s been harassed on a school bus. Because of that, more people have come forward that have experienced the same thing when they were younger and parents who have children who have experienced it.

In 2017, there have been reported 50 cases of child abuse that were received by the Women and Children Protection Department at the Dubai Police.

It was segregated to negligence (amounting to 35%) and physical abuse (25%). Thankfully, sexual violence was not predominant at that time.

In addition to this, parents have been warned that if any clause in the UAE Child Protection Law is broken, a huge fine and a possibility for a jail term can be faced by them. This is specifically for physical or sexual abuse or negligence of children.

Negligence of children can be connected to leaving them inside vehicles without any adult to look after them. In September 2017, the Dubai Police has rescued two children inside parked cars that pushed to issue a warning of not leaving children in cars.
