New Policy to Protect Women and Children

A New federal policy delivery by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum that will protect women, children, the elderly and people of determination from any form of violence and abuse. The policy, which was approved by the UAE Cabinet on Monday, November 11, is part of the leadership’s efforts to stand by family, children and vulnerable members of the society.

The new policy stressed that the UAE government focuses primarily on strengthening social ties and the family fabric within the nation. He also emphasized the concept of unity and cohesion in society.

The new changes will regulate the procedures regarding work and institutions who specifically deal with domestic violence. It will aim to create a unified framework in its regard.

The new amendment will provide the mechanism for protection and intervention, development of legislation and laws, as well as prevention and raising community awareness about domestic violence. It will also set standards for the training of staff working in the field as well as on studies, research and statistics.

Law on Volunteering Work

The new policy approved by the cabinet has an objective to organize volunteer work in the UAE and promote social cohesion. It covers regulations and conditions for volunteer work and registration for the volunteering individuals. the obligation of relevant authorities has been defined by relevant authorities, as well as the terms and conditions of volunteering outside the country.

The cabinet further approved the law on veterinary products which facilitate the licensing and registration of companies and factories as well as veterinary products and review of technical reports received from international organizations.

This law is taken from Sharia principles and applies to UAE nationals and residents unless non-Muslims wish to apply different rules in special cases as per their religion or laws of their home country.

The custodian would need to be mentally sane and hold no serious infectious diseases. These factors would be considered when determining the custody of a child in certain situations and but it will be the case by case basis.

The Personal Status Law also notes that in the event that there are no sufficient funds for taking care of a child, then the country will assist in such expenses. The new law further confirms this.
